Kristina Robertson founded her first business, Karing By Kristina (“KBK”), in 1991. As an early member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS), Karing By Kristina was one of the first pet sitting businesses in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. Kristina served on the Board of Directors for 8 years. Kristina is currently on several NAPPS committees – Member Benefits and Present 4 Pets – to name a few. Kristina is certified by NAPPS as a Level 2 Professional Petsitter and is currently taking the association’s next level of certification. Kristina and Barkley Square are also affiliated with Pet Sitters International (PSI). Barkley Square now has over 500 active clients in the Washington, DC metropolitan region.
A Passion for Pet Adoption
During the 1990’s, Kristina also served on the Princes Georges County, MD, Animal Commission, as a pet advocate, and provided services to the Prince Georges County Animal Shelter, Allbreed Pet Rescue and facilitated numerous pet adoptions of animals abandoned to her pet sitting service. Kristina works with the Alexandria Animal Welfare Society and the Washington Humane Society to help educate the public about adoption as well as helping to raise funds for the shelters.
Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery
In addition to her ever growing pet sitting business, Kristina is the proud owner of Barkley Square Dog Bakery & Boutique. This charming Main Street USA-style establishment prides itself on providing dogs and their owners with the most up to the minute innovative canine accoutrements. From dog birthday cakes and specialty treats to couture outfits and bling jewels, Barkley caters to the well being and enhancement of a dog’s life. Kristina has served as an active member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Alexandria City Visitors Association (ACVA), and was a member of the Old Town Business Development Association (OTBDA), through which she worked to enhance the pet friendly atmosphere of the community. Kristina was elected in 2009 as a Board Member of the Del Ray Business Association, an association that strives for growth, visibility and success of its members. The DRBA serves as an advocate, representative, and educator for businesses within the community of Del Ray in Alexandria, Virginia.
